Lincolnshire Police issue warning after ducks killed ‘by teenagers throwing stones’ at Metheringham
Police have issued a warning the public that attacking wild birds is illegal - after reports of ducklings being killed.
It is believed the animals were attacked by ‘teenagers throwing stones’ at them.
“We have received a report of mallard ducklings being killed at the Shiregate duck pond in Metheringham, possibly by teenagers throwing stones at them,” a statement by Lincolnshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team read.
“Not only is this cruel and upsetting for families who enjoy seeing them, it is also illegal.”
The statement added: “Section one of the Wildlife and Countryside Act provides protection for wild birds, their nests and eggs.
“It is illegal to intentionally kill, injure or take any wild bird.”
