Lincolnshire Police issue warning after ducks killed ‘by teenagers throwing stones’ at Metheringham




Police have issued a warning the public that attacking wild birds is illegal - after reports of ducklings being killed.

It is believed the animals were attacked by ‘teenagers throwing stones’ at them.

“We have received a report of mallard ducklings being killed at the Shiregate duck pond in Metheringham, possibly by teenagers throwing stones at them,” a statement by Lincolnshire Police’s Rural Crime Action Team read.

“Not only is this cruel and upsetting for families who enjoy seeing them, it is also illegal.”

The statement added: “Section one of the Wildlife and Countryside Act provides protection for wild birds, their nests and eggs.

“It is illegal to intentionally kill, injure or take any wild bird.”
