Lincoln Purple House Clinic psychologist Alice Vine helping to tackle trauma with Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing

A newly qualified psychologist is revolutionising the field with an innovative treatment.

Alice Vine, from Lincoln, became one of three people in the UK to be certified to train others in an innovative treatment called Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) back in February.

The forensic psychologist and director of mental health practice, Purple House Clinic on Grantham Street has since taught her 50th clinician to deliver the treatment, driving the line of work forward.

EMDR is a type of therapy that uses eye movements to find out where trauma memories are held in the body to help an individual process and recover from past experiences that affect their mental health and well-being.

“I’m thrilled to be able to provide accessible training that empowers professionals to incorporate EMDR into the lives of children and adolescents as quickly as possible to help them overcome trauma,” she said.

“Being able to offer this revolutionary programme from my own stomping ground of Lincoln fills me with immense pride – it’s an opportunity to make a real difference, right from the heart of the community I call home.”

The treatment has been endorsed by celebrities such as Prince Harry and Miley Cyrus and is said to be effective for children, delivering quick, significant results – while the process may take slightly longer in adults.

Alice’s training comes in level 1 and level 2 with the sessions coming with catering from a nearby café to help provide a relaxed and comfortable environment for all attendees.

One review read: “Alice, you are a wonderful trainer. I have felt comfortable talking about some of my complex cases with you, enabling me to put these ideas/concepts into practice. Thank you!”

Alice added: “By delivering these training sessions, I can empower clinicians to understand the critical importance of introducing EMDR therapy as early as possible in a person’s therapeutic journey,”

“This early intervention can significantly enhance treatment outcomes by addressing trauma-related symptoms before they become deeply entrenched.”
