Lincolnshire Police appeal for witnesses after Hillside Community Garden in Lincoln is vandalised
Police are appealing for information after a charity garden was trashed.
Hillside Community Garden, which is run by Lincoln charity Green Synergy, is on land owned by United Lincolnshire Hospital Trust off Roman Pavement behind the Francis Willis Unit.
But on Wednesday night at about 7.30pm, vandals ripped through the exterior of the polytunnels and stole some children’s games.
A statement issued by Lincolnshire Police said: “It’s a lovely garden, which opened to the public in 2019 after an extreme amount of hard work and effort from the charity and their group of volunteers to transform over-grown brambled wasteland, into the beautiful peaceful hidden gem that it is.
“It's used for events including family fun days, like the one they held yesterday with food and activities for the local community. This was well attended, and everyone had a lovely time, which is the current climate, we can all agree is much needed.
“This isn’t just criminal damage.
“This isn’t just theft.
“This is a charity being targeted and now facing an estimated bill of £8,000 to cover the costs of the damage alone.
“The costs to rectify these mindless, and selfish actions are not easy to cover.”
