Green light for Heighington MOT centre

A new village MOT centre and garage has been approved.

The application has been granted for Potterhanworth Road, in Heighington, near Lincoln and will also offer repairs and car sales.

It will be built on the former JNE Trading site, with the existing buildings converted into a workshop and MOT centre.

Planning documents from applicant Michael Brown state: “The proposal would represent the reuse of a vacant commercial building and would not result in any detrimental impacts upon residential amenity or visual amenity.”

It adds: “The existing hardstanding to the western portion of the site will be utilised as a forecourt and customer parking area, with the car workshop to be contained within the existing building.

“The existing roller shutter on the south elevation will be retained and used for access to the workshop and MOT centre. The small office within the workshop will also be retained.

“The car sales pitch and car parking is to be positioned towards the western boundary, set back from Potterhanworth Road.”

Between six to eight vehicles are expected to visit for MOT and repairs each day, creating a total of four full-time jobs.

The site is considered to be in open countryside but is already industrial brownfield land, and has residential properties located nearby.

Planning officers at North Kesteven District Council have granted permission for the development.
