Water levels in Lincoln’s Brayford Pool recede as Storm Darragh impact reduces
Water levels in Lincoln's Brayford Pool are gradually returning to normal following the impact of Storm Darragh.
The storm, described as an extratropical cyclone, swept through East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire over the weekend, bringing gusts of up to 34 mph.
Lincolnshire Police received about 100 calls related to the storm on Saturday alone, including reports of fallen trees in Skellingthorpe, Market Deeping, Holbeach, Old Leake, and Welbourn.
As of Tuesday morning, eight flood alerts remain in place across Lincolnshire, including areas of Lincoln. The Brayford, situated in the city centre, appeared particularly high on Monday, reminiscent of its overflow following Storm Babet in October 2023.
Several passersby were seen pointing out the high water levels. The Environment Agency has, however, confirmed that water levels are expected to return to normal over the next few days.
A spokesperson for the agency said: “Levels have already peaked through the centre of Lincoln and are slowly starting to fall.
"There is no rain forecast other than an occasional shower for the rest of this week, and we expect levels to return to normal over the next couple of days."

Lincolnshire County Council representatives have said partner agencies are ready to deal with any flooding if it occurs, and advised residents to check the Lincolnshire Resilience Forum website for more information on how to be better prepared for potential flooding.
