Office for National Statistics reveals which crimes are on the rise in Lincolnshire
Shoplifting and violent crimes are on the rise in Lincolnshire, new figures have revealed.
Overall crime recorded in Lincolnshire fell by just under 4% compared with the previous 12 months, according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics at the end of January.
The county’s police force received 55,127 reports of crime from September 2023 to September 2024.
During the 12-month period, more than 42 per cent of the reports related to violent crime.
Fourteen homicides, which covers murder and manslaughter, were recorded as well as 6,828 incidents where violence resulted in injury.
Violence which didn’t result in injury is also on the rise, jumping from 8,709 in 2023 to 9,239 last year.
The number of robberies - the act of stealing from someone using force or a weapon - has steadily increased over the past five years, up from 308 in 2019 to 410 in the 12-month period ending in September 2024.
However, burglaries reported to the police have dropped to the lowest number in the past five years. There were 2,538 recorded, 1,730 of which were at a residential property.
Shoplifting offences are on the rise nationally - with the highest number of offenses recorded since 2003 - and it’s no different in Lincolnshire.
More than 6,250 offences were logged, the equivalent of 17 shoplifting crimes each day.
At the end of January Lincolnshire Police announced it may have to axe frontline officers and support staff due to a £14 million deficit for the next financial year.
Residents and politicians have reacted angrily to likely cuts over fears Lincolnshire – already the worst funded force in the country - will suffer at the hands of criminals.
Crimes involving criminal damage, drug offences, causing death or injury from unlawful driving, public order offences all dropped during the 12-month period.
Possession of a weapon - a crime which had been on the rise for a few years - also decreased.
