Westminster Cathedral music director to hold concert to raise funds for new lighting All Saints’ Church in Oakham
Churchgoers who spend services in the dark are more than a third of the way to their fundraising target for new lighting.
Parishioners at All Saints’ Church in Oakham launched a £100,000 fundraising appeal in March to replace the building’s ageing lighting system.
It is something that’s been talked about in the church for more than 40 years and with villagers beginning to bring head torches to see their hymn books, it was decided finally it must be done.
A fundraising concert, featuring a performance by Simon Johnson, the director of music at Westminster Cathedral, is being held on Bank Holiday Monday (August 26) beginning at 11.15am.
Admission is free with collections on the door for the lighting appeal.
The first 50 people through the door at each concert will be invited to attend a lunch afterwards, costing £8 per person.
It is hoped the remaining £60,000 will be raised in time to start work in January 2025, when the church would be closed for two months.
