The Olive Branch and Beech House, in Clipsham, Rutland, named in The Times’ top autumn retreats list

A popular dining pub has been featured in a round-up of the UK’s top autumn and winter retreats.

The Olive Branch and Beech House, in Clipsham, make the list of 23 cosy autumn pubs as featured in The Times today (Friday).

The Rutland pub has won multiple awards over many years from guides such as Michelin and the AA.

And in this latest recognition from The Times, it is praised for its ‘intimate feel’, rustic furniture and open fires, as well as its dishes.

“The food is a cut above your average pub grub, with daily changing menus and carefully sourced produce, some grown in the ‘pub paddock’,” it says.

“Accompany it with the pub’s own beer, Olive Ale, or peruse its impressive wine list.”

The pub’s accommodation at Beech House, which was given a coveted Cesar award this year by the Good Hotel Guide, and a nearby natural attraction also earn a mention.

“The six beautiful bedrooms each have their own decor from Berry, with rich autumnal colours, to Double Cream, with an antique bed and rolltop bath,” it adds.

“Be sure to visit the nearby Yew Tree Avenue, with 150 trees clipped into interesting shapes.”
