Tributes to Rutland Canoe Club chairman and Langham volunteer David Moss

Tributes have been paid to a man who was the driving force behind a sports club and a pillar of his community.

David Moss died on April 7 just two months after he was diagnosed with lung cancer.

He was the chairman and head coach of Rutland Canoe Club, a trustee of Langham Village Hall, a volunteer driver for Voluntary Action Rutland and worked with Oakham School pupils on their Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions.

A spokesman for Rutland Canoe Club said: “David leaves an extraordinary legacy in both the paddlesport community and local civic life.

“He devoted countless hours to developing the talents of paddlers of all abilities. His commitment to community service extended beyond the water.”

Before moving to Rutland David worked as a senior partner specialising in litigation at Gumersalls Solicitors in Surrey. During that time he also served as trustee, head coach and chairman of Addlestone Canoe Club, while supporting Surrey Learning and Development as an Outdoor Education Instructor at Thames Young Mariners.

David’s funeral took place on Monday (May 12).
