Plan to turn Barclays Bank in Oakham High Street into flats

Part of an old bank branch could be converted into seven flats.

An application for the former Barclays building in Oakham High Street has been made to Rutland County Council by trustees of Ivor Crowson Developments pension fund, of Stamford.

A previous plan for the site - for eight flats and two shops - was refused on highways grounds last year.

The new idea is to have a shop with a 154m sq floor space at the front of the building on the ground floor, while changing the use of the rest of the bank and the next door offices to flats.

The addresses involved are number 8 and number 10 High Street, and neither building involved is occupied or listed.

External alterations to the front are not part of the plan.

According to a report to the council, the development would be ‘car free’ with no vehicle spaces provided, but there would be cycle spaces created.
