Rutland Women in Leadership launches series of monthly events




Women who work in leadership roles have come together for a series of events to support and inspire each other.

Rutland Women in Leadership is a new initiative spearheaded by the Lord Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr Sarah Furness, and leadership coach Fiona Wilson.

More than 50 people joined them at Oakham Castle for the launch event last week.

Dr Furness started last week’s event by talking about the obstacles women often face in leadership roles. Her speech was followed by the head of Mensa, Cath Hill, discussing how to deal with difficult people.

The group will now host monthly meetings based around the theme of navigating through difficulty.

Leadership coach Fiona said: “The aim of the events is to share ideas, insights and knowledge to develop existing leadership skills and ultimately, impact change for members of the group.

“Being a leader can be an isolating experience but Rutland Women in Leadership is a new community where members can feel supported, empowered and uplifted.”

The next talk takes place on Wednesday, February 19 at 6pm at The Barnsdale. Senior lecturer Kate Hiseman, will present a talk titled ‘you need to sustain yourself in order to sustain your work efforts', Kate will explore ways to create a work-life balance.

Fiona will also run coaching activities at each session.

Rutland Women in Leadership is a not-for-profit organisation with ticket proceeds covering the venue hire and catering costs only.
