A-level results 2025: Smiles at Oakham’s Harington School as pupils secure places at top-ranked universities
There were plenty of smiles at a Rutland school as pupils picked up their A-level results with many securing places at top-ranked universities.
Teachers and pupils at Harington School in Oakham are celebrating an impressive set of results, with more than 30 per cent of all grades awarded A*/A and more than 80 per cent at A*-C.
Five of those, including Edward Way, Harry Rowlands, Tobias Robinson and Charlotte Buckingham, achieved A*A*A* and a further 31 were awarded AAA or better.
Emilia Reed-Smith is among the top-graded students, achieving AAA*.
She said she had thoroughly enjoyed her time at Harington and is now preparing to study chemical engineering at the University of Birmingham.
“The staff have been very supportive and the extra-curricular activities available, such as Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award has been great,” she added.
“At Harington, I have been given the opportunity to develop both academically and socially before I embark on my next steps.”
The results are in line with the strong outcomes achieved last year, but with an improvement in the number of students achieving the very top grades.
Some students have secured places at the most competitive universities in the country, including Oxford and Cambridge, with six pupils going on to study medicine or veterinary science.
This year, an increasing number of students also opted to complete degree level apprenticeships.
Felix Rawlings, who achieved ABB, is completing an aerospace engineering degree level apprenticeship at Airbus.
He said: “Harington has provided brilliant opportunities and support so that I could make strong applications to engineering degree level apprenticeships.
“For example, I took part in Greenpower and a careers week, during which I was able to attend workshops with external speakers and arrange work experience with an engineering company.
“The teachers were supportive and I made some lifelong friendships during my time at the school.”

Headteacher Oliver Teasel said he was proud of all the students and their achievements.
He added over the last two years everyone worked really hard and it is no surprise the results were so strong.
“Students are leaving Harington to purse a diverse range of courses at some of the top universities and employers in the country.
“I am just delighted the school has played a part in their journey.”.
