New Rutland-based charity Wishesjust4you will grant wishes for children with life-limiting illnesses

A retired grandfather is setting up a charity to grant wishes for children with life-limiting illnesses.

Bill Stillman has been a keen fundraiser for many years, primarily for Children With Leukaemia, as well as a volunteer with Rutland Sailability.

He wanted to combine these two interests by organising sailing sessions for seriously ill children but after contacting local hospices Bill soon found the children had other activities on their wish lists too.

He has since helped to grant a number of wishes including a paragliding session and afternoon tea at Rutland Hall Hotel.

Bill, who has lived in Rutland for 35 years, said: "We aim to create joyful experiences and lasting memories for children and their families facing incredibly challenging circumstances.

“We believe that spending quality time together as a family is invaluable, especially during such difficult times. Our goal is to find and facilitate sponsored activities that allow these families to enjoy moments of fun, laughter, and connection."

With a number of wishes under his belt, Bill has now applied for Wishesjust4you to become a registered charity with the support of two trustees. He hopes this will enable the team to expand their reach and support more families. He is also hoping to recruit more volunteers to help find businesses willing to support the scheme.

Bill said: “I contacted local attractions in Rutland and got a fantastic response. It is so rewarding to see children’s wishes being granted.

“We act like a broker. We don’t supply the activity - we find businesses which are willing to grant a wish and they provide the tickets themselves.”
