Ofsted report for Little Angels Preschool in Uppingham identifies improvements

A preschool has boosted its safety standards after an inspector found broken glass on the floor and chemicals stored within children’s reach.

Little Angels Preschool in Uppingham was rated as inadequate by Ofsted seven months ago as a result of these issues.

The nursery was told to urgently improve its risk assessments by inspector Susan Hyatt.

A follow-up inspection took place in August and the preschool was rated good in all areas. No safety issues were found.

Inspector Judith Rayner said: “Staff who work with younger children make sure they create a safe and secure environment which enables babies to develop their physical, emotional and language skills.”

She described the staff as positive role models who promote good behaviour and noted that children with special educational needs are well supported.

She continued: “Staff recognise and value children's achievements and regularly offer praise and encouragement. This contributes positively towards building children's self-esteem and confidence, and enables children's positive attitudes to learning.”

For the nursery to improve further, the inspector advised staff to be more consistent in identifying ways to extend children’s learning through play and to extend the curriculum for older children until they transition to school.
