The Hoosiers announce free in-store gig at Rockabuy Records in Oakham after Peterborough festival cancelled
Indie pop band The Hoosiers are set to perform a surprise in-store gig at a town record store later this month.
The multi-platinum selling group were due to play at Peterborough’s On The Green festival on Saturday, May 24, but found themselves with a gap in their schedule when the event was cancelled.
Determined not to let fans down, the band, comprising original members vocalist Irwin Sparkes and drummer Alan Sharland, swiftly arranged a free gig at Rockabuy Records, in Oakham, on the same date.
Chris Poole, of Rockabuy Records, was “delighted” to help.
“When we heard about the cancellation of the festival, we knew how disappointing it would be for both fans and artists,” he said.
“So we jumped at the chance to keep the music going and create something special.”
The intimate in-store show will feature a stripped-back set including hits from their chart-topping debut The Trick to Life, and songs from their latest album Confidence and back catalogue.
The 9pm performance at the Mill Street record shop has limited capacity, with entry to the show on a first-come, first-served basis, prioritising those who have cancelled tickets to ‘On The Green’ with them.
Further details are to be announced and fans are advised to keep an eye on the band’s social media platforms for updates.
Hoosiers singer Irwin said: “Al and I thought it would be only right and a bit fun to do a pop-up gig at the nearest record shop for fans who were planning to come to our festival show.
“It'll be intimate and a squeeze, however, we are delighted to say the amazing people at Rockabuy Records will be hosting our free gig on the same day as the cancelled festival and we’ll be on stage at 9pm.
“We hope you can join us - no-one will stop the show!”
