Leicestershire League cricket round-up
An excellent all-round performance from Angus Owen helped Oakham's second team to a vital victory in the Leicestershire League on Saturday.
Owen shone with both bat and ball as the Rutland side beat Shree Sanatan by 20 runs in their Division Four East match.
Owen smashed 14 boundaries in his 51-ball innings of 82 as Oakham made 211 after batting first at the Lime Kilns.
He then took 5-52 from his 12 overs as Sanatan were bowled out for 191 for a victory that boosted Oakham's hopes of escaping the bottom two.
They remain at the foot of the table but are just eight points adrift of safety with five matches of the season still remaining.
Oakham first team's run of victories in the top flight came to an end after a heavy Premier Division defeat.
They were beaten by 135 runs against Sileby Town who had set Oakham an imposing total of 332-6 after batting first.
Joe Johnson had taken three wickets for Oakham who were bowled out for 197 in reply despite Harry Tyler scoring 52 and Charles Gill making 43.
Uppingham made a rapid return to winning ways in Division One with an eight-wicket home triumph against Sileby 2nds.
They had restricted their visitors to 172-7 with Ryan Sheehan and Mark Cox claiming a couple of wickets each for Town.
Hayden Brough then led the run chase with an unbeaten 83 while opener Cox scored 66 in a 134-run stand for the second wicket.
Uppingham 2nds remain top of the Division Six East table after a 57-run success over Electricity Sports 3rds.
Ben Harford hit 74 while Charlie Burgess blasted 61 as Uppingham made 211-7 from their 40 overs.
They then dismissed their hosts for 154 with Thomas Welch taking 4-44 and Harry Cox claiming 3-14 from a tight 6.2 over spell.
They remain level on points at the top with second-placed North Kilworth who beat Market Overton by three wickets.
Openers Joe Peveritt (34) and Nathan Adams (44) top-scored as Marko were bowled out for 145 after batting first.
Charlie Milner and Peveritt both picked up two wickets in the North Kilworth reply but the title chasers edged home in the 38th over.
Wakerley and Barrowden were unable to topple Division Seven East leaders Leicester Foxes who won their contest by 26 runs.
Nathan Hall and James Gibbs had both taken three wickets each as the Foxes were bowled out for 163.
However, Barrowden were restricted to 137-9 from their 40 overs in reply despite opener Hall hitting 61.
Michael Ackerman was in top form for Oakham 3rds as they defeated Houghton & Thurnby by five wickets in Division Eight East.
He took 3-36 from 10 overs as Houghton & Thurnby were restricted to 191-6 before top-scoring with 70 in Oakham's successful run chase.
Opener Neil Southern also scored 45 for Oakham who stay bottom of the table despite the victory over their fourth-placed visitors.
Chris Collings claimed five wickets as Market Overton 2nds beat Fleckney Village by 138 runs in Division Nine East.
Marko had earlier made 263-9 from their 40 overs with opener Amy Helstrip hitting 72 and James Culy cracking 45.
Fleckney were then bowled out for 125 as Collings collected 5-29 from 10 overs while Sam Culy claimed 2-21.
Uppingham 3rds lost by 11 runs in a close contest with Great Glen 2nds who made 218-6 after batting first.
Harrison Garrill, Phil James and Jack James all took two wickets each for Uppingham who finished their reply on 207-5 with openers Darren Sweary (72) and Phil James (42) their leading run-scorers along with youngster Bradley Sheehan who made 35.
