Leicestershire Cricket League round-up as Chris White takes eight wickets for Wakerley and Barrowden




An awesome all-round performance from captain Chris White inspired Wakerley and Barrowden to victory in their Leicestershire League clash on Saturday.

White top-scored with 65 and also featured in a 124-run partnership with Nick Farrer who made 59 not out as Wakerley scored 183-5 from their 40 overs in the Division Nine East match with Houghton and Thurnby 4ths.

The Wakerley captain then took an outstanding 8-19 from eight overs as Houghton and Thurnby were dismissed for 60 in reply.

White also successfully executed a run out with Pete Vernon picking up the other wicket to fall as Wakerley won convincingly by 123 runs.

Oakham 3rds took the derby day bragging rights in the same division with a three-wicket win over Uppingham 3rds at Empingham.

James Anthony took 4-38 while Kushal Shah claimed 3-47 as Uppingham were bowled out for 154 with opener Andy Cross scoring 35 ahead of a late barrage of 48 from Husein Tatia who smashed three fours and five sixes in his 28-ball innings.

Edward Sandwell took 3-34 in the Oakham reply while Bradley Sheehan took two wickets but an unbeaten 44 from Thomas Stuart-Jones and Sam Welford's 38 steered the hosts to victory.

Oakham's first team ended a run of six successive defeats in the Premier Division with a 57-run home success over Kibworth.

Ryan Lewis led their batting with an unbeaten 49 while Henry Stephenson added 31 as Oakham made 184-8 from their 50 overs.

Kibworth were then bowled out for 127 in reply as Rob Taylor took 4-28 while Will Begy and Ben Southern both struck twice.

Uppingham were 20-run winners in their Division One match at Loughborough Town.

The Rutland side made 248-7 after batting first with Hayden Brough making 58 while Mark Cox and son Charlie scored 41 and 34 respectively.

An unbroken stand of 71 for the eighth wicket between Jonny Kay (42no) and Henry Sandwell (28no) then helped Town to a decent final total.

Loughborough were dismissed for 228 in reply with Angus Maloney taking three wickets while Kay and Harry Wade both bagged a brace each with Daniel Roberts getting the vital run-out of Loughborough top scorer Yash Thakrar for 59.

Oakham 2nds were beaten by 29 runs in their Division Four East match at Aryans who made 249-9 after batting first.

Mark Owen took three wickets for Oakham who were bowled out for 220 in reply despite a century for Angus Owen and Alex Carr's 54.

Uppingham 2nds made it back-to-back wins in Division Five East after a seven-wicket home success against Leicester Caribbean.

The visitors had made 169-8 with Jack James taking two wickets for Town who chased down their target inside 35 overs with opener Ben Harford hitting an unbeaten 84 and Will Rossiter adding 38.

Market Overton's run chase came up short in their home defeat to Leicester Stars in Division Seven East.

The visitors made 271 after batting first with Ryan Thwaites taking four wickets for Marko who closed their 40 overs on 205-9 in reply.

Brian Makwana was in fine form for Marko as he hit 11 fours and a six in his 95 while Jack Adams added 29 lower down the order.
