Giles Cooper from the Rutland Running and Triathlon Club completes the sixth race in the Abbott World Marathon Majors
Giles Cooper from the Rutland Running and Triathlon Club defied an early injury blow to complete a major marathon milestone.
Cooper shrugged off the effects of an early quad injury to finish the Tokyo Marathon.
It was the sixth race in the coveted Abbott World Marathon Majors where runners have to complete races in Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago and New York City to join a select group.
Cooper's final race in Japan didn't quite go to plan as he sustained his quad injury after just three kilometres.
However, showing a warrior-like spirit, Cooper completed the remaining 40k despite his injury to finish the race.
To continue after injury so early in the race is some feat and, despite the pain Cooper was in, he crossed the finish line.
He was rewarded with his Tokyo Marathon medal and a six-star accolade which has brought massive congratulations from the Rutland club.
Seven runners from the Rutland Running and Triathlon Club took part in the Belvoir Challenge.
While drier than previous years, there was still plenty of mud to contend with.
Five members, including club president Helen Duncan, completed the full marathon distance while two others entered the 15-mile distance.
There was a notable result for Saya Harvey who came an excellent fifth in her age group.
The club then had an incredible 15 members taking part in the Cambridge half marathon.
A really unexpectedly warm day meant a very busy field but there were some great times, particularly for Tom Davey who was first home for the club in 1:39.
Helen Graves returned a 1:51 personal best and Dave Summers' 1:53 gave him third in his age category.
