New playing kit for girls footballers at Uppingham Community College
Since the Lionesses' triumph at the Euros, girls' participation in football has skyrocketed - and Uppingham Community College is no exception.
With up to 50 girls regularly attending football clubs each week, the enthusiasm has been incredible.
The Year 7 girls’ team even fought their way to the County Cup final this year.
But, despite their success on the pitch, there’s been one challenge—they have had to play in the boys' team kit during competitions.
That is until now thanks to the generous sponsorship of Community College alumni.
The backing of Jane Fennell, chief executive of Pepper Ray Marketing and Website Design, along with her business partner Grace Poole, means the girls will now be stepping out in a brand new kit of their own.
When Jane and Grace heard about the girls' situation, they knew something had to be done. Together, they decided to sponsor the team, covering the cost of a full set of shirts.
The girls' new kit was officially presented to the team, just hours before their first match of the season, where they stormed to a 6-0 victory.
"I'm so proud to have a female-owned business supporting this wonderful group of girls," said Jane, who is hoping the team can continue their winning streak.
Grace added: "It's so important for young girls to feel confident and proud in their sport and having their own kit is a big part of that."
