Rutland League cricket round-up





James Laud struck an unbeaten century as Burghley Park moved up into third spot in Division One of the Rutland League on Sunday.

Laud scored 106 not out as Burghley leapfrogged Werrington with an eight-wicket win over their Peterborough hosts.

Alex Ashwin, Stuart Biggs, Joe Youngs and Oscar Jackson had all taken two wickets as Werrington were bowled out for 220.

Opener Laud then led the successful run chase while Young added 70 runs as Burghley triumphed with 11 overs to spare.

City remain in pole position to take the top flight crown after a four-wicket win over reigning champions Barnack.

Usman Sadiq struck 62 while Wahid Javed was unbeaten on 56 as Barnack closed their 45 overs on 245-8.

Muhammad Raheel took three wickets in the City reply while Asim Butt bagged a brace but the Peterborough side edged a close contest with nine balls to spare as Mohammed Saif finished on 87 not out.

Oakham moved to the top of the Division Two table after a 78-run win over previous leaders Werrington 2nds.

Olly Billington and Otto Jozsa were in rampant run-making form for the Rutland side after both hit 117.

Opener Billington carried his bat to finish unbeaten at the end of the 45 overs while Jozsa smashed 19 fours and three sixes in his 117 before being bowled.

It helped Oakham total 316-3 from their 45 overs with Werrington being bowled out for 238 in reply as Will Begy claimed three wickets for the new league leaders.

Stamford remain just outside the bottom two places in the same division after beating Castor by 32 runs at Uffington Road.

Fine innings' of 73 and 57 respectively from James Ferrow and Aidan Staunton helped Stamford post 188 after batting first.

They then restricted Castor to 156-4 at the end of their 45 overs with Ferrow finishing his nine overs by conceding just 19 runs.

Alex Birch took 2-22 from a similar stint while Tim Juggins claimed 1-18 from seven overs with Mark Taylor's nine overs going for only 20 runs in an excellent all-round bowling display.

Ufford Park lost by four wickets in a low-scoring contest at Wisbech Town.

They were bowled out for 92 with Sufyan Mazhar making 21 and Andy Larkin scoring 20.

Wisbech lost six wickets in their successful run chase with Mazhar and Sudheer Jafar both taking three each.

Bourne lost by just one wicket in their home match with United Sports in Division Three.

Will Gardner blasted 14 boundaries in his 90 while Corey Young added 44 as Bourne closed their 45 overs on 211-8.

Young then took 4-32 from nine overs while Gardner grabbed 2-24 but the final wicket proved elusive for Bourne as a last stand of 20 steered Sports to victory.

Danny Harrington hit an unbeaten century for Ufford Park 2nds in their 101-run win over Royal Strikers in Division Four East.

The opener carried his bat throughout the 40 overs to finish on 113 not out as Park posted 222-3 with Jason Bloomfield scoring 52 in a 170-run stand for the first wicket.

Bloomfield then took 3-18 from eight overs while Damian Willett and Jan Neville both struck twice as the Strikers were dismissed for 121.

Uffington 2nds' match with Laxton Park in Division Four West finished all square with the honours even in a tie.

JJ Harrison and Joe Genever had top-scored with 31 and 32 respectively as Uffington were bowled out for 191 after batting first.

Laxton looked on course for victory with Joss Boyle at the crease but he was run out by Matt Bailey after reaching his century.

It left Laxton needing two runs off the final ball for victory but, although they completed one to level the match, Rupert Boyle was run out by Tim Pratt going for the victory.
