Leicestershire Cricket League round-up




New signing Hayden Brough top-scored as Uppingham Town got their first victory of the new Leicestershire League season on Saturday.

Town had seen their opening match of the campaign the previous weekend called off due to the wet weather after just six overs.

But Australian Brough made the most of his arrival in Rutland by scoring 74 as Town won by five wickets against Syston Town in their Division One match.

Danny Dumford added 30 while Liam Geddes was unbeaten on 32 at the close as Uppingham successfully chased down their target inside 33 overs.

Syston had earlier been restricted to 194-6 with Scott Green taking three wickets for Uppingham who host Egerton Park on Saturday.

Oakham also had a delayed start to their Premier Division campaign and they went down by four wickets to Lutterworth at the weekend.

New recruit Steve Flowers top-scored with 43 while Charles Gill made 38 as Oakham were bowled out for 182.

Shaun Morris led the Oakham attack with 3-28 but Lutterworth passed their target inside 37 overs.

Oakham 2nds were on the wrong end of a 113-run reversal in their home match with Sileby Town 3rds in Division Four East.

The visitors amassed 269-3 after batting first before bowling Oakham out for 156 with opener Ben Southern scoring 52 and Mark Owen making 37.

Market Overton took the derby honours in Division Six East with an eight-wicket home win over Uppingham 2nds.

Harry Cox and Charlie Burgess had both top-scored with 27 as Uppingham made 150-9 from their 40 overs after batting first.

Chris Collings was the pick of the Marko attack with 3-34 while both Will Abbott and Jack Adams took two wickets each.

Opener Joe Peveritt then led Marko's charge to victory with an unbeaten 78 which featured eight fours and three sixes.

Callum Hull hit 23 while Adams was unbeaten on 22 at the close as Marko passed their target inside 25 overs.

Newly-promoted Wakerley & Barrowden made it two wins out of two in Division Seven East after a 19-run success over Kibworth.

Barrowden had been bowled out for 87 with Nathan Hall hitting 25 for the hosts who then dismissed their visitors for 68.

Sam McAvoy and Pete Vernon led the Wakerley attack with 3-17 and 3-15 respectively while Hall picked up 2-22.
