Rutland Sailability members took part in the Hansa European Championships in Sneek, Holland

A team of sailors who hone their skills on Rutland Water has competed in an international event.

Paul Pearson, Ric Cassell and Logan Bell were at the Hansa European Championships, which this year took place at The Royal Yacht Club in Sneek in northern Holland.

Teams from across Europe and as far afield as Chile and Korea competed in the week-long championships.

Great Britain was represented by 18 boats across three fleets: the Liberty; Hansa 303 one-person; and Hansa 303 two-person.

Pearson was fifth in the Liberty, Cassell was 11th in the same class, and Bell was 10th in the 303 single-handed silver fleet.

The event was a great spectacle for those involved, with flag-bearers from each nation arriving by boat accompanied by a brass band.

The week’s social programme also kept competitors entertained, with a whisky tasting, an Indonesian buffet, and a prize-giving and closing ceremony.
