Leicestershire League round-up




A six-wicket haul from Harry Tyler helped move Oakham off the foot of the Leicestershire League Premier Division table on Saturday.

Tyler took 6-52 from his 8.2 overs as Oakham defeated Sileby Town by 14 runs at the Lime Kilns.

The Rutlanders had been bowled out for a healthy 269 after being put into bat with opener Will Begy their top scorer after making 60.

Charles Gill (41), Steve Flowers (45) and Tyler (31) all made key contributions with Charlie Baker hitting a vital 22 at the end of the order.

Baker struck twice in the Sileby reply before Tyler took centre stage as he clean bowled two of his victims, trapped another leg before with Flowers, Ryan Lewis and Baker all taking catches.

Sileby were eventually dismissed for 255 as the win moved Oakham above Kegworth in the league standings.

Uppingham's first team completed the first leg of a victory treble for the club as they defeated Loughborough Carillon by 65 runs in Division One.

Charlie Cox top-scored with 96 while Jamie Richardson added 81 with Mark Cox contributing 40 as Uppingham made 281-9 from their 45 overs.

Cox senior then led the Town attack with 3-38 from nine overs while Ryan Sheehan also struck twice as Carillon were restricted to 216-8 in reply.

Oakham 2nds were beaten by 34 runs in their Division Four East match at Houghton and Thurnby 2nds.

Nick Gerber grabbed three wickets as their hosts hit 272-5 which proved just beyond Oakham's reach despite Will Stuart-Jones making 63.

Uppingham 2nds won a low-scoring match by 22 runs against Leicester Banks 2nds in Division Five East.

Jonny Kay top-scored for Town with 25 as they were bowled out for 120 but their visitors could only muster 98 in reply as Harrison Garrill and Freddy Williamson took three wickets each for Uppingham.

Market Overton were four-wicket winners against Cosby 2nds in their Division Seven East clash.

The visitors had been restricted to 172-7 with Stewart Naylor and Ryan Thwaites both taking two wickets each for Marko.

Joe Peveritt led their run chase with 56 while Matthew Perry added 36 before Ed Milner (22no) and Alex Knott (25no) steered them home.

Marko seconds suffered a nine-wicket derby defeat against Oakham 3rds in Division Nine East.

Elliot Hudson top-scored for Marko with 17 after they were bowled out for 109.

J Weeks took three wickets for Oakham who passed their target inside 18 overs with J Sharpe scoring 42 and Darran Jones unbeaten on 46 at the close.

Uppingham 3rds also got the better of Rutland rivals as they defeated Wakerley and Barrowden by 11 runs to complete Town's winning treble.

Tom Hollyer hit 55 for Uppingham while Andy Cross contributed 45 with Jonathan Blythin making 35 as Town reached 238-9 from their 40 overs.

Peter Vernon led the Wakerley reply with 57 while James Gibbs, Nick Farrer and Chris White all reached their thirties as they closed on 227-7.

Mustufa Amadxarif and Sadiq Mohiuddin both took two wickets each for Uppingham.

Market Overton remembered the life of Mark Mabbott in a memorial match on Sunday.

The Rutland club took on Mark's American Football team, Leicester Panthers, in a T20 contest.

Mark played for both clubs before his death last year at the age of 45. The two teams and family members are pictured before the game got underway.
