Drink-drive barmaid from Alford may lose her job, court told

A barmaid says she may lose her job after admitting a drink-driving charge.

Denise Robertson was found to be over the legal limit when police visited her Alford home after being alerted to a collision at around midnight on October 28.

The defendant said she had drunk a pint of Moretti lager before getting behind the wheel, Boston Magistrates were told on Wednesday (November 20).

“Officers were informed of a collision on the B1169 at Mawthorpe Hill Road at Alford,” prosecutor Marie Stace said.

“They couldn’t find a vehicle but were told a red Ford Fiesta was involved.”

Police tracked the number plate to 39-year-old Roberton’s address at Conlie Close.

The defendant gave a reading of 59 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.

Robertson told officers a moped had ‘come from nowhere’ and her vehicle collided with a bush as she swerved the oncoming moped, but managed to drive home, Ms Stace continued.

“She told officers she’d had one pint of Moretti lager,” Ms Stace said.

Defending herself, Robertson - who works as a barmaid and waitress - said she would ‘possibly’ lose her job after being banned from driving.

“I’ve never willingly, knowlingly driven over the limit and I’m sorry,” she said.

“I’ll absolutely do everything I can to keep my job as I need it.”

Robertson pleaded guilty to drink driving and was banned for 16 months, which could be reduced by 16 weeks if she completed a rehabilitation course.

She was also fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and the £48 victim surcharge.
