New visuals of refurbishment at Skegness Embassy Theatre
Fresh visuals of a planned refurbishment of Skegness’ Embassy Theatre have been revealed, as part of a £5 million funded cultural regeneration scheme in the town.
A planning application submitted by East Lindsey District Council seeks permission to extend the courtyard area to the south elevation and the car park area to the north elevation of the building on Grand Parade.
It would also give a facelift to the Embassy Theatre’s main entrance, with new signage and canopy areas, alongside “minor landscaping” to improve its external appearance.
It is set to be funded by some £5 million from Arts Council England’s Cultural Development Fund, granted to East Lindsey District Council last year for a refurbishment of the Embassy Theatre, and regeneration of the Skegness Pier.
The planning application has details for upgrading seating in the theatre itself, an extension to the stage store, and more multi-use areas.
If approved, the extension would cater for the creation of four additional full-time jobs at the Embassy Theatre, bringing the total employment opportunities at the site to 17.
At the time of reporting, no planning application has been submitted for the works at Skegness Pier, which include potentially improving accessibility, renewing lighting and furniture, and the construction of a new multi-use amphitheatre space for seating and public events.
Plans were submitted on June 14, and the council’s planning officers will consider the proposal across the coming weeks.
