Residents at Barrett Court retirement village in Skegness has raise £2,500 to give a guide dog to a visually impaired person
A retirement village has raised funds to give a visually impaired person a guide dog.
Residents at Barratt Court in Skegness have been holding various events raffles, tombolas and garage sales throughout the year with the aim of putting up £2,500 to name and sponsor a guide dog puppy.
The dog will be a life-changing addition to someone blind or partially sighted, giving them more freedom and independence.
Jill Humphries, the Skegness group coordinator from Guide Dogs said: “The support we have received from everyone at Barratt Court is absolutely amazing - they are a pleasure to work with.
“We are so lucky to have such dedicated people supporting us.
“The fundraising they have done is greatly appreciated by all of us at Guide Dogs.”
The group have decided to name the dog Barratt after the place where its sponsors live.
Tejinder Bahia, a service manager at Platform Housing Group, the organisation that owns Barratt Court, said: “It is both heartwarming and humbling to see the hard work of everyone involved in raising this superb amount for such a great charity.
“We’re looking forward to watching Barratt grow into a fully trained guide dog and helping enhance someone's life in our communities.”
