Skegness woman broke bottle on family member’s head following Christmas day argument about drugs

Christmas celebrations ended in a woman smashing a bottle over a family member’s head following an argument about drugs.

Kaya Brown pleaded guilty to a charge of common assault when she appeared in court on Wednesday (January 29).

The 28-year-old, of Cross Street, Skegness, had been enjoying a festive get together when an argument erupted minutes into Boxing Day, leaving one woman with ‘cuts to the head’.

“It was around midnight. The victim was celebrating Christmas with family and friends when she believed the defendant had given her daughter cannabis,” prosecutor Lottie Tyler told Boston Magistrates’ Court.

“She went to confront her about this and tell her off as she didn’t think this was acceptable.”

Ms Tyler said Brown became aggressive, refusing to listen to her boyfriend’s attempts to calm her down.

“The defendant had a bottle of alcohol in her hand. She hit her (the victim) over the head while facing her

“She hit her with such force that the bottle broke.”

In defence, Vicki Clayton said the argument had nothing to do with cannabis, and that Brown reacted because the victim was ‘repeatedly asking her for cocaine’.

“She (Brown) is a recovering cocaine addict and she is related through family (to the victim).

“She (the victim) was repeatedly asking her for cocaine, asking her if she had any.

“The situation escalated and they began shouting at each other.

“She hadn’t intended any harm but threw the bottle in an attempt to get her to go away.

“She admits she was out of order throwing the bottle. The victim was left with cuts to the back of the head.”

Brown, who struggles with disability and receives universal credit, was fined £200 and ordered to pay £100 compensation to the victim and an £80 victim surcharge.

Magistrates made no order for court costs.
