Take a look around the new Wendy’s restaurant in Spalding which opens on Thursday May 22
A long-awaited new restaurant will be opening its doors later this week — and we took a look behind the scenes.
Wendy’s — one of America’s most popular fast food brands — will be bringing its signature dishes to Spalding when a new restaurant and drive-thru begins serving up meals from Thursday, May 22.
The firm has spent months constructing and kitting out the American style diner on the Lincolnshire Gateway Park, close to Applegreen services — and locals are eager to try out the latest food outlet on offer.
Restaurant general manager Mamta Mehmi and her 35-strong team have been getting ready for the grand opening by offering free taster sessions — including to the Peterborough Phantoms ice hockey team.
Mamta said: “I am very excited and happy to be opening the restaurant.
“It has been very exciting and we have seen a lot of people.
“We are really looking forward to opening.”
We popped along on Monday to take a look around the new restaurant and try out some of the food ahead of the opening.
The restaurant — first announced to be coming to the area in 2023 — has been kitted out in tasteful neutral colours with a splash of red, along with fun artwork to keep diners entertained.
Comfortable wooden seating and tables adorn the interior along with a large bar type seating with red chairs.
Wendy’s, which was founded in 1969 by Dave Thomas in Columbus, Ohio, prides itself on serving up quality food which is cooked fresh to order.
The new team — which has been supported by a group of eight trainers — will be serving up signature dishes such as the ‘Baconator’ and Dave’s Single burgers and the well-known iconic Frosty’s dessert.
When we arrived on Monday morning the Wendy’s team were busy preparing breakfast which included the Baconator - which is made up of British beef, American cheese, six strips of crispy Applewood smoked bacon.
I opted for the bacon, egg and cheese muffin and some mini hash browns which were washed down with some coffee and I have to say I was not disappointed.
Having delayed my breakfast due to this visit, I was starving so the bacon, egg and cheese muffin did not last long. The eggs tasted really fresh and didn’t have the rubbery consistency that you can get in other outlets and the bacon was absolutely delicious.
The mini hash browns, which had a hint of onion, were incredibly more-ish and before I knew I had devoured them all. Not that food ever lasts long in front of me - unless it’s lettuce.
My favourite breakfast item had to be the coffee as it had a lovely smooth taste and I’d happily drink that again.
Wendy’s will be open from 7am and the first 50 customers will be receiving an exclusive Wendy’s t-shirt. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 10am.
