Almost 100 business owners to have case heard at Boston Magistrates’ Court after non-payment of Spalding BID levy

Almost 100 business owners are due to have their case hear in court today for non-payment of a controversial levy.

The Spalding BID has split opinion amongst town centre traders even before the scheme was passed by one vote last July.

The BID - Business Improvement District - looks to improve footfall the town through a number of initiatives from free parking to hanging baskets and special events, funded by a levy imposed on all businesses within its borders.

However, many traders argue they cannot afford to pay the charge, which is based on the rateable value of each business.

A total of 89 business owners will have their cases heard at Boston Magistrates’ Court this afternoon (Monday June 30) as South Holland District Council, which oversees the collection of BID cash, attempts to recoup monies owed.
