Fields Farm in Whaplode host successful family fun day

A family fun day has helped raise vital funds for charity – and organisers say they are ‘overwhelmed’ by the positive response.

Fields Farm in Whaplode held its first fundraising event on Sunday (May 11) and raised about £500 for Alzheimer's Society.

Owners of the newly opened nature play and therapy site, Kate Heywood and her business partner, Charlotte Creswell, both work in adult social care and have experienced first hand crises in the service.

The duo hoped the fun day would help raise funds to tackle the ‘lack of resources’ for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease.

Charlotte said: “We had an amazing day and so many people came and supported us which was so overwhelming and lovely – our car park was overflowing.

“Myself and Kate have worked really hard to get to where we are and it makes it all worthwhile when we hear people’s feedback – everyone kept asking us on the day to do another family fun day event.

“We just want to create a space the community can benefit from and it’s something we do feel passionate about.”

Visitors were able to take advantage of the messy play area which is already on site, whilst getting stuck in with the other fun activities such as face painting. There was also a bouncy castle, which was kindly donated by Bounce House Party in Holbeach, a comedy and circus show led by Transported Arts, yoga sessions with Roseanna Mackay from Adults Move Lincolnshire and lots more.

The farm is also home to alpacas, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, ducks and peacocks.

Charlotte added: “We were really nervous because it was our first event and we didn’t know if anyone would come, but we had between 200-300 people here and it was brilliant.”

Fields Farm has just started hosting a regular outdoor fitness class session led by Adults Move Lincolnshire.

It enables parents to keep fit and healthy, whilst their child keeps entertained with the activities on site.

This will be taking place every Monday from 9.30am.

The site’s messy play classes are held every Thursday and Friday at 9.30am and 12.30pm. Spaces can be booked by visiting the Fields Farm website.

Kate and Charlotte will be taking part in the Trek26 challenge in the Lake District with a group of their friends at the end of this month – where they hope to raise £1,800 for Alzheimer’s Society.
