An ambulance was responding to a 999 call when it was involved in a collision with a transporter, health chiefs have confirmed.

The road was partly blocked and police officers attended to assist in ‘safe traffic management’.

A paramedic was sent in a solo car following the collision.

Sue Cousland, Divisional Director for East Midlands Ambulance Service, Lincolnshire said: “One of our ambulances was travelling on blue lights when it was involved in a road traffic collision on the A16 at approximately 11.03am.

“There wasn’t a patient on board the ambulance at the time of the collision.

“We sent a paramedic in a solo response car, and following an initial assessment on scene, no-one involved in the collision sustained any injuries.

“A further ambulance was sent to respond to the initial 999 call.

“The incident will be investigated by the police and is therefore inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.”

Both vehicles were recovered shortly before 1pm.
