Fleet Arts and Gifts Fair to showcase local talent

Local talent will be on show at this year’s Fleet Arts and Gifts Fair.

More than 100 paintings by artists of all ages will be on sale at the event - held at St Mary Magdalene Church - while many other stalls will offer something for everyone.

The desire for ‘affordable but different’ gifts remains strong after Covid, while some new stalls can also be expected, according to organiser Julie Turner.

“There’s a lot of people who previously did crafts as a hobby who are taking it more seriously after having more time to work on it (during the pandemic),” Julie explained.

“Going forward, there are certainly two or three who are deciding to come and sell at this event. People looking for things that are affordable and different.”

The Fleet Arts and Gifts Fair has run for more than 15 years.

Julie has attended every event with her Pandora’s Box jewellery, and organised the craft stalls for the past decade.

But this year she and friend Caroline Sullivan, who has attended previously with her business Children’s Discount Books, will take over organising all of the event.

One noticeable change will see a crop of younger artists displaying their work this year.

This year’s event will run from Friday, October 28 until Sunday, October 30.

Friday is preview night, which is open to the public from 7pm-9pm, with the fair open 10am-4pm both Saturday and Sunday.
