Spalding Encore Orchestra receive standing ovation and encore at Broad Street Methodist Church concert
An audience enjoyed a ‘fabulous’ night of music and gave a standing ovation to a community orchestra.
The Spalding Encore Orchestra entertained 100 people at Broad Street Methodist Church, Spalding, and were asked for an encore.
Set up by Zeph Churchill, the orchestra is made up of musicians who have dusted off their instruments and are able to play again, meeting weekly to rehearse.
Zeph said: “The orchestra is for people who haven’t played their instruments for years.
“It was a great opportunity to demonstrate the music that we are currently working on in our repertoire.
“It is a safe and enabling environment for some of us who are a bit rusty.”
The concert’s programme ranged from Henry Purcell to music from Dr Who.
Councillors Mark Le sage and David Ashby attended the evening.
Coun Le Sage said: “A big round of applause to Zeph Churchill and the members of the Orchestra for such a lovely evening.
“What a fabulous night and a huge congratulations to all involved.
“It was a wonderful evening of music intermixed with information about each piece by Conductor Anthony Grunwell.
Zeph is a figurehead on the music scene in Spading and has enjoyed sell out success with her debut show Is It Me Or Is It Hot In Here? at the South Holland Centre and theatres around the country.
The next concert is planned for Saturday, October 4 at St John’s Church in Spalding and new members are welcome to join the group.
