Spalding Town Board reviews membership following demise of Destination Lincolnshire

The committee in charge of spending £20million to improve the town will be reviewing its membership following the demise of a tourist group.

Destination Lincolnshire had a seat on the Spalding Town Board - which was established last year after the town had been listed as one of 55 areas in need of help in the previous government’s Long Term Plan for Towns.

Earlier this week, we reported that Destination Lincolnshire had ceased trading and made staff redundant following a period of significant financial pressure.

A spokesman for Spalding Town Board said: “The town board will review its membership following the recent announcement on Destination Lincolnshire as part of the next meeting, to ensure we still have good representation of the visitor economy interests and opportunities for Spalding.”

The board had previously stated that it is committed to developing a ‘robust plan’ for the town using findings from last year’s public consultation after holding its first meeting of 2025.

It is due to start receiving Government money from 2026 but has already invested money in buying new Christmas lights for the town, hot spot policing and £20,000 to help Spalding Gentlemen’s Society to fund a new museum.
