Brilliant weekend to mark 900th anniversary of Whaplode St Mary’s Church
Medieval re-enactors and classic cars helped to mark the 900th anniversary of a village church.
Members and friends of St Mary’s Church in Whaplode celebrated this important anniversary with a host of events over the weekend.
The Events Committee and the Parochial Church Council organised for Grantanbryeg Medieval Re-enactment and Displays to come along over the weekend along with a performance by Military Wives of Coningsby choir.
Classic cars, cycles and motorbikes were also on display plus the Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Rev Stephen Conway, also conducted a celebratory service.
The reneactors had formed a guard of honour for the Bishop to walk under.
One of the event organisers Cyril Hearn said: “The bishop said he had never walked through an armed guard of Saxon swords before.
“The weekend went really well and the children from Whaplode Primary School enjoyed watching the re-enactors.”
