Brilliant weekend to mark 900th anniversary of Whaplode St Mary’s Church




Medieval re-enactors and classic cars helped to mark the 900th anniversary of a village church.

Members and friends of St Mary’s Church in Whaplode celebrated this important anniversary with a host of events over the weekend.

The Events Committee and the Parochial Church Council organised for Grantanbryeg Medieval Re-enactment and Displays to come along over the weekend along with a performance by Military Wives of Coningsby choir.

Classic cars, cycles and motorbikes were also on display plus the Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Rev Stephen Conway, also conducted a celebratory service.

The reneactors had formed a guard of honour for the Bishop to walk under.

One of the event organisers Cyril Hearn said: “The bishop said he had never walked through an armed guard of Saxon swords before.
