Anglian Water says repairs to burst sewer in a Spalding road are now complete - and that the River Welland was not contaminated
Water bosses say repairs to a sewer are now complete and a town road should be reopen in the ‘coming days’.
Anglian Water say four tankers were used to pump away waste from Commercial Road after a water main on the sewage network burst on Sunday.
The closure of Commercial Road has created mayhem across the town with motorists reporting issues with the diversion route and long journeys. Nearby Queens Road has also been closed in order to complete pavement works to ease traffic concerns in Holbeach Road.
A spokesman for Anglian Water has stated that sewage from the burst did not contaminate the nearby River Welland.
A spokesman said: “The sewer burst on Commercial Road was entirely contained to land by our team, and did not enter any watercourse. We used four tankers to take wastewater to our nearby water recycling centre in the meantime, and the repair of the main itself has now been fully completed.
“The engineers on site are just working to reinstate Commercial Road now, and the road is expected to reopen in the coming days.”
