Baytree Owl and Wildlife Centre in Weston has ‘busiest day’ at popular Baby Day event
A wildlife centre has been able to raise funds for conservation projects across the world after having their ‘busiest day’ at a popular event.
Baytree Owl and Wildlife centre in Weston, has hosted its first Baby Day event of the year — and there’s another to follow next Monday (May 26).
Families were able to meet and learn more about the life of owlets at the ‘baby talks’ and watch flying demonstrations throughout the day.
Ben Teakle, who is a falconer at the site, said: “It all went very well and we were lucky with the weather.
“We were able to raise money for the Chaco owl project in Paraguay and put the funds towards camera traps.
“All in all it was a very good day and there were a lot of happy visitors with us.”
The wildlife centre has previously shared the importance of conservation work and hopes the events can help raise awareness for its latest care initiative.
A Chaco owl project in Paraguay is currently researching the wild bird to figure out why their numbers have declined, and some of the money raised through the baby day events are donated to various facilities and equipment, so researchers can send over their findings and data.
The owl centre also supports a Lugger Falcon project in Pakistan and is gearing up to fly two of their Lugger Falcon chicks to the country in South Asia, as part of a reintroduction programme.
There will be a second Baby Day event on Monday, May 26. Tickets for the Baby Day events cost £7 for adults, £5 for children and under 3s can attend for free.
These can be purchased by visiting the website or in person on the day.
