Residents at Spalding's Cedar Falls care home make their own Guy

Residents at Cedar Falls care home in Spalding made a traditional Guy Fawkes effigy.

The life-size Guy was made with discarded clothes, straw, and a pumpkin head, which was one of several donated to the home by local children. The striking looking Guy now takes pride of place at the front of the home.

Making the Guy was a fantastic opportunity for residents, and many of the team, to look back and reminisce about their childhood tradition of making a Guy from discarded clothes and rags.

They remembered sitting in busy areas and shouting, ‘Penny for the Guy’ and later burning the effigy on a huge bonfire, where they baked potatoes and ate them blackened and burnt

Regional manager Maxine Gascoigne said:“It’s lovely to see the old traditions bringing pleasure in 2021. Penny for the Guy was a popular occasion and is fondly remembered as a time that brought children together to make the Guy and have fun at the evening bonfire.

"Residents made a great job of their Guy and what a fantastic way to revisit those happy days of childhood.”
