Gedney Church End Primary School sends Christmas messages to care homes from the hearts

Youngsters at Gedney Church End Primary School have sent a "We're thinking of you" message to three care homes in South Holland ahead of Christmas.

Nutten Stoven and Mayfield Residential Homes, both in Holbeach, as well as Action Homecare, in Long Sutton, received unique festive greeting from the school before the end of term.

Older pupils wrote their messages on heart-shaped paper, while younger children pictures of themes related to the festive season.

The activity was part of a national "Hearts for Homes" campaign, encouraging schools to design and create their own hearts before sending them to care homes to help spread some festive cheer, particularly to people who may be feeling lonely at this time.

School administrator Natasha Parnell said: "We did a 'Hearts for Homes' project by sending little messages and drawings from the children to the care homes by post just to brighten up the residents' Christmas.

"One of the care homes, Nutten Stoven Residential Home, in Holbeach, has made a display out of the hearts and sent us a photograph showing the residents liking the messages and drawings."

Carolyn Stanway, registered manager of Nutten Stoven, said: "Gedney Church End Primary School offered to do messages for our residents and they were really beautiful.

"Thank you to all the children who took part in making these for our vulnerable residents during Christmastime at this unprecedented time we are all facing.

"These messages, which are taking pride of place in our home, brought smiles to all our residents' faces so we took photographs of them and sent them to the school for the pupils to see."
