Macmillan Cancer Support receives cheque for more than £3,000 following Holbeach charity football match organised by Spalding resident

The cash raised from a charity football match has been handed over.

More than £3,000 has been passed on to Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Donington resident Heather Brown.

Her son Carl, who lives in Spalding, organised the match between South Lincs Swifts Vets and a Gedney Legends XI at Holbeach United’s Carter’s Park ground in July, on what would have been the 40th wedding anniversary of Heather, who passed away last year, and husband Trevor.

Football clubs including Peterborough United, Boston United and Spalding United all donated memorabilia to help swell the coffers via a raffle.

Carl has now passed on the cheque for £3,133 to his chosen charity.

“I was so pleased by how many people came and donated,” Carl said.
