Charity looking for volunteers to offer support to people living with bereavement in Spalding… with new Holbeach centre planned soon
A charity is hoping to open its third Grief Kind Space in the area - in a bid to offer vital support to people living with bereavement.
Sue Ryder is on the search for volunteers in Lincolnshire as it plans to set up a centre in Spalding, after successes in Stamford and Bourne.
A new space in Holbeach is also set to open in the next couple of months.
The national healthcare and bereavement charity is opening a series of Grief Kind Spaces across the country in 2024, with their latest planned to be hosted by Tonic Health on Spalding’s Westlode Street.
To get the new sessions off the ground by this summer, the charity needs local volunteers who would be willing to listen and support people in their own communities who are grieving and need more support.
“The new Grief Kind Space in Spalding will be the third in Lincolnshire and comes after the success of the other sessions already established in Stamford and Bourne,” said area coordinator Marie Huggins.
“Volunteers are vital to ensuring we can continue to be there when it matters, and we would encourage anyone who has a willingness to support their community through grief to get in touch.
“All volunteers joining us will be offered training which will equip them in their role. You don't need to have experience or have done anything like this before – you just need to be over 18 years old and have a few hours to share a week.”
Sue Ryder’s Grief Kind Spaces are free weekly drop-in sessions, run by trained volunteers who will provide a safe and supportive space for people who have experienced a bereavement to come together.
The spaces aim to go some way to reducing the isolation and loneliness experienced by people after somebody close to them has died.
The Sue Ryder Grief Kind Space in Spalding will be held every Tuesday from 10am until noon.
The Grief Kind Space in Stamford is open every Friday from 10am until noon at MindSpace on Broad Street while the space in Bourne has recently relocated to Barchester’s The Cedars care home, Church Walk.
It runs every Thursday from 10am-noon.
