Staff at Sense in Spalding plea for community support following ‘heartless’ break-in

Charity shop staff say they feel ‘deeply upset’ by ‘heartless’ raiders who stole customer donations and caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

Following a break-in last month, Sense in Station Street, Spalding is now calling for community support to cover the cost of repairs.

The store was forced to close on one of it’s busiest trading days of the week and said it has caused a ‘significant’ set back.

Christine Brennan, who is the area manager at Sense in Spalding said: “Everyone is deeply upset by this heartless break-in.

“Arriving at the shop to find smashed internal and external windows, boxes of goods ripped open and even food snatched from the staff kitchen was devastating – it was galling to discover that some stock kindly donated by local people had also been taken.”

Sense raises vital funds to support disabled individuals with complex needs and will be celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.

As a result of the break-in, a cleaning company reached out to Sense and offered to help clean up the damage.

Christine added: “The kindness and support we’ve been shown by local people has helped restore our spirits.

“A cleaning company offered to help us clear up and although we’d already done that, we were very touched by their gesture. Local people and customers, old and new, have also been popping in to express their support.

“Now the team is determined to make up the losses we’ve suffered and to keep raising money for Sense.

“If anyone else would like to help, we would love you to visit the shop and perhaps make a donation or buy some of our lovely and well-priced clothing or household goods.”

Police told us they are looking into the matter and their investigation continues. Anyone with information can call 101.
