Old traditions will be brought back to life with new ‘Sunday Music at Ayscoughfee’ in Spalding

Weather won’t put a damper on a new event which organisers hope will bring an old tradition back to life at a historic town site.

Organisers of ‘Sunday Music at Ayscoughfee’ want to bring the community together and increase footfall in Spalding.

The event will be held at Ayscoughfee Hall Museum and Gardens on Sunday, September 15, between 1.30pm and 3.30pm – and visitors can enjoy listening to live music in the historic grounds.

Councillors Mark Le Sage, David Ashby and Ingrid Sheard created ‘Sunday Music at Ayscoughfee’ and want it to become a monthly event.

Mark said: “Brass bands have historically been a part of Ayscoughfee’s history and I thought it was about time to bring something back from the past that I know a lot of people thoroughly enjoyed.

“We think it is great to bring it back and the idea is to put music on at least once a month or twice during the summer. There are less brass bands than there were 30 years ago and it is just something I am really looking forward to bringing back. It will be an eclectic mix of music but predominantly brass bands.

“We want to increase the footfall in Ayscoughfee and bring people into the town – it can only be a positive thing.

“We are not worried about the weather. There is no such thing as the wrong weather but there is such thing as the wrong clothing! Bring a brolly and if it’s chilly, just wrap up and bring a coat.”

Up and coming musician Jordan Ravenhill, will be playing this weekend after the previously booked band cancelled last minute.

A second event is due to take place on Sunday, October 6, and it will return in 2025 between May and September.
