South Holland District Council rejects 'ski slope' site levels in Moulton Chapel

Plans to agree a controversial housing estate's raised levels have been rejected by councillors - despite advice to give them the go-ahead.

The site levels of the notorious Chapel Gate development in Roman Road, Moulton Chapel, were debated at length by South Holland District Council's planning committee tonight.

Parish councillors and villagers have been calling for the application to be refused due to the heights of the 86 homes and safety fears over the 'ski slope' access road and tonight they got their wish.

The committee were convinced to go against an officer's recommendation and voted against the plans.

Allison had wanted to confirm the current site levels - and reduce those on the western boundary.

Work commenced on the site in April last year - with the importation of soil, ground works and road base constructed.

The building control team was called out in August and found works had occurred before the ‘pre-commencement conditions’ were discharged - and Allison Homes was told to stop work.

Officers using delegated authority refused a ‘condition compliance application’ in June 9 as the ‘site and finished floor levels were considered too high’.

A new report for tonight's meeting had stated that officers had sought ‘specialist external legal advice’ due to the ongoing concerns - which suggested that the 'simplest way forward' would be for the applicant to submit the application which appeared before the committee tonight.

However, members were not satisfied with the application and unanimously voted against it.
