Lincolnshire Police and South Holland District Council investigating rampant surge in graffiti in Spalding offer £500 reward
Council bosses are offering a £500 reward for information which leads to the prosecution of the vandal behind the ‘rampant’ surge in graffiti.
South Holland District Council and Lincolnshire Police, in a joint venture, are appealing for help in a bid to narrow down the search for the person who is responsible for the unslightly tags which has been appearing in sites across the town.
Graffiti has been found on the council’s Priory Road offices, the derelict Bull and Monkie and a political message has also been sprayed onto the street artwork on the former Calthrops site in Market Place.
The council’s community safety tea and police have been investigating the incidents and believe the similar sign/tag could be the result of a single individual - but so far they have not been able to identify a suspect.
Coun Anthony Casson, portfolio holder for Public Protection, said he supports this new initiative.
He said: “As a council we have a zero-tolerance approach to graffiti which degrades our towns and villages across the district. Our officers work hard to get it cleaned up wherever possible, but this reward will help us catch one of the most prolific offenders in the local area and send a clear message – we won’t stand for graffiti here in South Holland.”
A police spokesman said: “We welcome any information about those responsible for localised graffiti.
“We recognise that graffiti is impacting the wider community and as part of the South Holland Policing Plan our aim is to tackle anti-social behaviour.
“We will continue to work alongside our partners at South Holland District Council to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Lincolnshire Police are taking this seriously and will pursue all lines of enquiry.
“Please report any new graffiti to us promptly investigate.”
A resident who provides information that results in a successful prosecution of the culprit will receive a £500 reward.
