Spalding, Bourne and Boston NFU members invited to meal to tackle social isolation

Living and working in a rural area has many benefits, however it can create its challenges. At times these may start to become a real burden.

Lincolnshire Rural Support Network is a volunteer-led organisation that provides pastoral and practical support to those involved in the farming and growing community during periods of anxiety, stress and problems relating to their family and businesses.

They provide one to one visits to homes and businesses, drop in advice points providing the opportunity for a chat with a friendly face, health screening at Spalding Auction fortnightly on Wednesdays between 9am and 1pm and a helpline which is open daily between 8am and 6pm (0800 138 1710)

The isolation of a rural area can be one of the contributing factors to anxiety or stress. It is recognised that the increased use of social media does not help as it means that we do not gather as a community quite as much as we perhaps used to.

In an effort to address this NFU County Chairman, Chris Wray, has prompted the organisation of an NFU County meal providing the opportunity for members, and their partners and wider business acquaintances, from Spalding, Bourne and Boston branches to gather socially.

There will also be a presentation by “What3Words” to provide an overview on how their App is assisting rural businesses and communities.

The event is at The Poachers Country Hotel, Kirton Holme at 6pm on Thursday, January 23. RSVP by Thursday, January 16, to NFU Regional office 01572 824250 or east.midlands@nfu.org.uk. Tickets are priced at £25.
