Holbeach woman Anne Leek, 79, aims to raise £1,000 with sponsored zipline for Alzheimer’s Society
A daredevil 79-year-old woman will be zip-lining through the sky to raise money for a charity close to her heart.
Anne Leek, from Holbeach, is hoping to raise £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society with a kilometre-long sponsored zip-line, which she hopes will make a small contribution towards ending the suffering of those who, like herself, are affected by the disease.
Her husband, who is now 80, was diagnosed in 2015, though Anne says she knew he was unwell much before, and his condition has been declining since.
“He's gone downhill a bit faster in the last year but he copes with it quite well and he’s still quite chatty with people,” she said.
“It’s just the two of us and I moved house so I can get lots of help from my family, I can call on them anytime.”

The idea started when she met some friends for lunch and Anne announced that she would be going to Wales with her daughter, son in-law and husband for week away where she would be trying out zip-lining.
Jokingly, her friends said they would sponsor her, and what was originally a small family retreat turned into a fundraising opportunity.
Anne has witnessed first-hand the distress these situations can cause, which is why she feels it’s so important to help where she can.
“You sort of lose them twice, I feel like he’s already gone now but when he passes, it will feel like I’ve lost him again – it’s really horrible,” she added.
Feeling both nervous and excited, the 79-year-old is looking forward to the event which is taking place at Zip World Llechwedd, North Wales, on June 10.
