Long Sutton Primary School deputy head cycles 78 miles to raise cash for play equipment

When a school needed new activity and playtime equipment a deputy head decided to get on her bike.

Rebecca Hales cycled the 15-plus mile round trip from her home to Long Sutton Primary School every day last week as part of a fundraising appeal.

And her purposeful pedalling saw the school raise more than their intended £500 target.

“What an amazing week,” said Mrs Hales, who clocked up 78 miles on two wheels last week.

Her challenge coincided with a Get Moving challenge and school sports week, with youngsters exploring how to get active in back gardens, parks, with friends and family and build activity into the day.

“I saw so many scooters and bikes on the school gates this morning and have seen some great photos too,” Mrs Hales added.

A total of £570 was raised through a JustGiving page, which beat the £500 target.

The cash will be spent on some fun outdoor games for youngsters to enjoy.

“Being outdoors and having fun with friends is an important part of the school day,” a school statement of the crowdfunding page said.

“We want to provide a wide variety of activities for all children to enjoy throughout the year with each other.

“From skipping ropes, to balls, to giant skittles and activity walls, bringing the fun to the playground for everyone to enjoy.

“We need help to raise funds for equipment and training for our playground leaders.”
