Duck food machine has been installed in Fishpond Lane Nature Reserve in Holbeach

A food machine for ducks has been installed in a nature reserve.

The new machine was recently installed in Fishpond Lane Nature Reserve in Holbeach, as part of the ‘feed the ducks’ initiative.

It works by dispensing a specially formulated feed to meet their dietary needs - and cuts out bread, which is commonly fed to ducks.

Bread can be harmful to their health and the machine provides a nutritionally balanced and safe diet.

The clerk of Holbeach Parish Council, Jan Hearsey, said: “The machines are provided at no cost to the council and the council receives 10% of the income to fund environmental initiatives in our open spaces.

“The duck feeding machine has already received positive feedback from residents and visitors alike. Many have praised the initiative for its forward-thinking approach to wildlife care and its commitment to environmental sustainability.”
