Education Awards: Kirton Primary School recognised for great support

A school dedicated to ensuring its children are never disadvantaged has been recognised for all that it does.

The team from Kirton Primary School were elated to have won the Primary School of the Year award at Thursday's Spalding Guardian and Lincolnshire Free Press Education Awards.

The school was up against tough competition, but judges were so impressed with everything staff do to help their children.

The primary school has introduced free of charge after school sporting activities and cultural visits.

Youngsters at the school also make use of greenhouses and raised vegetable beds on site to learn all about where their food comes from.

After accepting the award from Kate Robb of sponsor Gibbs Shoes, head of school Marc Neall praised all of his team for their hard work.

"This is amazing - it's brilliant to see all of the smiling faces on the team on that stage.

"I couldn't ask for a better team and I have to give credit to them as this is all down to them."

The school also won another huge accolade earlier this year, scooping the TES School Award for School of the Year for Staff Wellbeing.

Mr Neall added: "We have got some great children - they're fantastic - and it's all down to the team.

"It's been a really great year for us."

Runners up were Spalding's Wygate Park Academy and Clough & Risegate Community Primary School.

The team at Wygate Park Academy engage youngsters not only through the curriculum but also through the support they give to the community. They mix in plenty of fun with learning too, as evidenced by the Slime the Teacher event held to raise funds for Comic Relief earlier this year.

Clough & Risegate Community Primary School has a real family ethos behind everything it does.

Every child matters to the staff and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. They were noticed for their dedication for never leaving any child behind.
